Our Values

So what does Opus 48 stand for?

Picture
We believe that good amateur singers enjoy being challenged. We will encourage members to extend and improve their vocal technique. Rehearsals will help members to fulfil their best potential and to develop their musicality and technique, which in turn will positively impact on the standard and sound world of the choir.

It is critical for any large group working together to develop a sense of community. This is especially important for a choir made up of members who vary in age and experience. We hope that our singers will derive both enjoyment and a sense of pride from being members of our choir and from undertaking an exciting musical and social journey together.

A good performance hinges upon excellent communication between singers, conductor, and instrumentalists. The choir will benefit from working consistently with regular groups of instrumentalists to produce truly collaborative performances. As well as putting on concerts in a range of Oxford venues, Opus 48 aims to perform in London or in other local towns and city with reasonable regularity, and to tour further afield in due course.

Oxford is a city with a rich choral tradition and Opus 48 aims to position itself at the heart of this, as a forward-looking medium-sized choir aiming for high musical standards. We seek to foster good relationships with the local community and to engage many different groups of listeners, not only through our performances but through a complementary programme of talks and public events that will help bring the music to life. Part of our remit is to give back to the local community, not least by working with children and young people in inspirational ways in order to create the next generation of concert goers.

Opus 48 will be committed to its members, will listen to its membership and be as flexible and helpful as possible. From clearly communicated dates and schedules, working around school terms and bank holidays, we will endeavour to make membership of Opus 48 enjoyable, rewarding and inspirational. We hope this will be a choir you will feel proud to belong to.
