MEET OUR MEMBERS

A choir is only as good as its members.
And we think our members are pretty special.

Jo

Jo works for an AI company in Oxford. She is a maths geek at heart but is reined in by her family. Music has always been a great passion of hers, having learnt piano and flute from a very young age. She has also a very healthy obsession with opera and musical theatre.  Jo is very excited to be on board with Opus 48.

Richard

Having enjoyed a very musical childhood and young adulthood I allowed the demands of a medical career and busy family life to get in the way, only resuming singing in the last fifteen years. Now singing has again become a big part of my life and I am hugely looking forward to being part of this ambitious new venture.

Angus

Angus has always had a passion for music and can whistle the same tune for days. When not whistling he works as a psychiatrist in Oxfordshire and is also a Watford FC season ticket holder. Angus’ favourite composer is Mozart and he is looking forward to working with like-minded people to produce a great sound with Opus 48.

The basics

When and where does Opus 48 rehearse?

We rehearse at Cherwell School North Site Hall on Monday evenings between 7.15-9.30pm.

Term dates are communicated to members in advance, with an average of eight rehearsals per term.

Each term begins with a workshop on the Saturday preceding the start of rehearsals.

What do members of Opus 48 get?

  • Top-quality music making
  • Clearly communicated dates and schedules.
  • No rehearsals during school holidays or on bank holidays
  • Easy-to-manage subscriptions and membership
  • Social events and a great sense of community

How much does it cost?

Membership subscriptions are payable on an annual basis and are currently set at £300/year. This includes an average of eight rehearsals per term plus a full workshop day at the start of each term. This is because as a new venture, cash flow is everything! Different payment schedules are available on request too.... don't hesitate to ask!

Under 30?

Then you can benefit from our £30 under 30 offer. We want to recruit the best singers, and we know that when you're starting out, finances can get squeezed. So to lighten the load, if you're under 30, termly fees are just £30 (or £90/year). So that's a weight off....!

Are there any additional benefits to being a member of Opus 48?

We think that the social side of any leisure activity is so important. You are dedicating a fair amount of time to it, of course. So, we will be putting on several social events throughout the year, where you can get to know your fellow choir members, and let your hair down.

So how can I become a member?
